Jack Kerouac photograph (October 1962) - Lowell, Massachusetts. Photo was taken in 1962. In May 1972 the backprint was changed again, this time to "This Paper Manufactured by Kodak, " which lasted until around 1989.
Selective overlining was introduced in addition to selective underlining in 1980, in order to accommodate new wider paper rolls. Based on no under or over lining it puts it between May 1972 and 1980. This is an original print I've acquired over the years. I believe it came from a Kerouac biographer who aquired it directly from Poirier.
Photographer George Poirier who seated next to Jack Kerouac in the photo. Poirier was a popular figure in Lowell, who ran a business, Poirier of Lowell and took many photos of locals as well as local celebrities. Poirier passed away in 2016. This was taken in the SAC Club of downtown Lowell during an October 1962 visit by Kerouac. Kerouac, quite drunk at this point, did not want his photo taken.
This photo has been well used. Please see photos for complete condition.
